WebDAV or "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning" is an extension to the HTTP protocol that allows an individual or a team of developers comprehensive control over a web project. Conceptually it serves as a sort of http-based filesystem supporting versioning and access control. Many operating systems, browsers, and authoring systems support DAV.
